Maccabee Apparel is proud to present our first collaboration with comedian Pete Barlow , creator of the popular G.I. Low comic strip. It started with a conversation. The Thing —Benjamin Grimm from Marvel’s Fantastic Four —is canonically Jewish. The Golem of Prague , according to Jewish folklore, is a legendary protector fashioned from clay by Rabbi Judah Loew, the Maharal of Prague. They are both towering, nearly indestructible guardians famous for clobbering bad guys. Somewhere along the way, someone asked the obvious question: If The Thing were a golem, what would his catchphrase be? The answer: “It’s Kabbalah-ing time!” We know it is a niche joke for comic book fans with an appreciation for Jewish history, folklore, and aggressively niche puns. Fortunately, that is pretty much our target audience.
